William Battersby (27) Husbandman, married Elizabeth Geldart (21) Spinster (X) (meaning she could not write) on 24 October 1818 at Urswick. The witnesses were Robert Chatburn Geldart and Elizabeth Geldart (X). Lancashire Online Parish Clerk.
Another William Battersby was baptised 5 April 1823 at Dalton-in-Furness, son of William and Elizabeth Battersby.

I had difficulty finding the family in the 1861 Census, (the name has probably been mis-transcribed, but I never discovered to what) but they were still at Edge Hill, Urswick. The household is made up of William Battersby (70) Widower, Farmer, born Dalton; William Battersby (38) Son, Unmarried, Farmer’s Son, born Lindale (sic – probably Lindal); Robert Battersby (34) Unmarried, Farmer’s Son, born Lindale (sic); William Fisher (17) Grandson, Farm Servant, born Dalton; William J. Edmondson (11) Farm Servant, born Ulverston; Ann Nicholas (25) Unmarried, House Servant, born Gleaston, Lancs; Mary Dixon (14) House Servant, born Kirby (sic) Lancs.

BATTERSBY William 6 August The Will of William Battersby late of Scales in the Parish of Aldingham in the County of Lancaster Yeoman deceased who died 22 April 1869 at Scales Aforesaid was proved at Lancaster by the oaths of Samuel Battersby of Scales aforesaid Yeaman and William Battersby of Redman Hall in the Parish of Urswick in the County aforesaid Yeoman the Sons and William James Fisher of Barrow-in-Furness aforesaid Spirit Merchant the Executors.

I had expected to find the younger William still at Edge Hill in the 1871 Census, but this was not the case. Living at Scales (abode unnamed) were Samuel Battersby (50) Farmer of (unreadable) acres, born Dalton, Lancs; Sarah Battersby (37?) born Aldingham, Lancs; Robert Battersby (18) Unmarried, Agricultural Labourer, born Aldingham (as were the next five children; Elizabeth Battersby (16) General Servant (Domestic); Sarah Jane Battersby (14) Scholar; Samuel Battersby (12) Scholar; Thomas Battersby (10) Scholar; John Battersby (8) Scholar; William Battersby (48) brother, Annuitant, born Dalton; Robert Battersby (44) Brother, Farm Servant, born Dalton.
