St Matthew’s, Dendron
The church was built as a Chapel of Ease in 1642 at the cost of Robert Dickinson, citizen of London, formerly of Leece; he provided funds for Divine Service to be read on Sundays and for the children to be taught during the week. Chapels of Ease were built to make church attendance easier for those who had to travel a distance to the Parish Church.
George Fox, founder of the Quaker movement, preached here in 1652.
