This grave is not always visible, often being hidden by the hedge next to the car park. The kerb reads:
KENNETH MCRAE NORRIS MACLAREN
KILLED BY ENEMY ACTION 26TH FEBRUARY 1941, AGED 23
Son of J. W. and E. D. MacLaren, of 64 Ocean Road, Walney Island, Barrow-in-Furness, Lancashire. Died at 8 Senghenydd Road, Cardiff (CWGC). CWGC gives his age as 26. There is a photograph on the Find a Grave website of a list of Barrow Grammar School Rover Scouts who served in the war with Kenneth Maclaren’s name on it. It appears to be from Aldingham Church. This same site has a link to the University of London Student Records, Roll of the Fallen, where Kenneth Maclaren is also named. He does not appear on the war memorial rolls of honour from Barrow Grammar School now in the Town Hall at Barrow.
Kenneth Maclaren was an M.P.S., i.e. a Member of the Pharmaceutical Society (it became the Royal Pharmaceutical Society in 1988).

A third child, Ian Peter Maclaren, (DoB 8 May 1914) had left home by this date. He became a 2nd. Lieut. (201765) in the Royal Regiment of Artillery on 23 August 1941, and died in the Hastings registration district in Q1 1997.

The father, John Wills Maclaren, has an entry in the Foreign and Overseas Registers of British Subjects reading:
John Wills, son of Peter MacLaren (sic) and Annie his wife. Born St. Petersburg 5 October N. S. 1883, baptized in his father’s house Jany. 3rd 1884 N.S. service by Pastors Nicolson, Easton and Killner. The N. S. refers to “New Style”, i.e. the Julian Calendar. Russia was still using the Gregorian Calendar in 1883).
