Some of the headstone is unreadable, and since this photograph was taken, the tree on the left has obscured more of it.   This is my best guess, having used Ancestry and Cumbria BMD for some of the dates.
I got interested in John Kinnish because his daughter Elizabeth lived to be 102 years old (1838 – 1940). She is buried in Rampside Churchyard. However, John has his own interesting story.
The Diary of William Fisher of Barrow 1811 to 1859 (ed Rollinson & Harrison) Centre for North-West Regional Studies (1986) records (spelling as published):
27 (January 1848) John Kinish back smith and Farmer at Northsale Isle of Walney was Coming from the Market and set to cross [the ford] before it was tide he had a Horse and Cart with two young Piggs in it the wear all Drowned he had pertaken rather too freely of John barly corn the wear all found the next morning he was 45 years of age.
In Dennis Laird’s book North Scale 1992 (p18), he writes:
“This particular blacksmith’s shop was on the shore in the centre of the village.  It had been owned by Robert Greenwood of North Scale.  In his will dated 19th August 1838, Greenwood had left it to John Kinnish, subject to Kinnish paying an annual lease of 15s 0d to William and Agnes Turner of Dalton.  When John Kinnish met his unfortunate end, as detailed by William Fisher, it was found that he had no will, so the blacksmith’s shop passed into the ownership of his son Robert.  In a conveyance dated 10th August 1863, Robert Kinnish sold it back to Thomas Greenwood, son of Robert, for £50.  The blacksmith working the shop at that time was Abraham Slater, and he had been there for at least twelve years. …. Greenwood seems to have been a man of some substance, and later owned shares in some of the schooner fleet built at Ashburner’s yard across the channel at Hindpool.”
John Kinnish married Jane Greenwood in Dalton Parish (which would include Walney at the time) on 28 March 1832.

1841 Census

North Scale: John Kinnish (36) Blacksmith; Jane Kinnish (35); Robert (8); Thomas (6); John (4); Elizabeth (3); Jane (9 months). Cumbria BMD tells us that the mother’s maiden name was Greenwood.  Elizabeth and Thomas Kinnish are both buried in Rampside Churchyard.  Thomas’s grave also commemorates his great-nephew(?), Robert Postlethwaite Kinnish.
