One of the problems with deaths before about 1870 is the lack of information in local newspapers. Locally, this is a very early report, from The Barrow Herald and Furness Advertiser 21 March 1863 reported:

DEATH OF MR. JOHN STOREY. – Our readers will learn with regret (of) the death of this much respected gentleman. He was confined to his house for some weeks by a severe attack of jaundice, and was progressing favourably up to Tuesday last, and that morning expressed himself as being so much better that he proposed going out for a drive. About noon he had a severe attack of apoplexy, which terminated his valuable life about 4 p.m. To this town Mr. Storey will be a great loss. Intimately connected with it for the past ten years, he was always one of the foremost in every improvement, and any undertaking having for its object the development of the town, had his earnest support and co-operation. We have thus lost a loyal subject, a good and kind landlord, a persevering and efficient public servant, swift and unswerving in all his undertakings. The many good qualities he possessed, fitted him in an eminent degree for the difficult offices he held. Beyond his business, charity was never wanting, and when opportunity offered, he was among the foremost to promote a benefit to his fellow creatures. His memory will long be cherished by a large circle of friends.

Is this John Storey the one who built Storey Square?
