1861 Census
Joseph Bibby, the son, married Elizabeth Birkett in Dalton-in-Furness on 19 January 1858. They had Jane in 1858 (on 1861 Census living with grandparents), and Sarah in 1860. After Joseph’s death Elizabeth carried on a business in Askew Gate.

The 1871 Census has Elizabeth Bibby (36) Head, Widow, Tea Dealer and Postmistress, born Grassgarth, Westmorland; Jane Bibby (12) Scholar, born Dalton-in-Furness; Sarah Bibby (11) Scholar, born Barrow-in-Furness; Annie Birkett (32) Sister, Unmarried, Bookkeeper, born Grassgarth, Westmorland; Edward Bibby (66) Unmarried, Uncle-in-law, Quarryman labourer, born Kirkby Ireleth; Mary E. Gaskell (15) Unmarried, General Domestic servant, born Kirkby Ireleth; Matthew Wilson (31) Unmarried, Boarder, Certificated Teacher, born Flookborough (sic) Cartmel, Lancashire.

By the 1881 Census Jane (22) and Sarah Bibby (21) were both unmarried confectioners living in Market Street, Dalton.
Sarah Bibby
Sarah Bibby went on to marry Job Hartley at St Peter’s, Ireleth (Cumbria BMD) or St Mary’s, Ulverston (Ancestry) on 26 December 1883. They later emigrated to the USA, where she died on 17 March 1937 in Lakewood, Ohio. Her date of birth on the Death Certificate is given as 30 January 1860. She had 3 children at least: Norman Bibby Hartley; Hallam Hartley; and Dorothy Hartley.
1910 USA Census
Further research revealed that in the 1910 USA Census, living in Lakewood, Rockport, Ohio were Job Hartley (54), Foreman in a Blast Furnace; Sarah Hartley (50), and 6 children; the 3 mentioned above plus Gladys E. Hartley, Sarah B. Hartley, and Jennie B. Hartley. The family had arrived in the USA in 1889. Also in the household was Sarah’s sister Jane Bibby. They had not always lived in the USA after migration: Hallam’s birthplace is given as Canada, and he migrated to the USA in 1903. His Ontario registration of birth is 10 December 1901.
