DEATH OF KIRKBY YOUNG MAN. – The death took place in Ulverston Cottage Hospital, after a long illness, on Thursday last, of Mr. Thomas Wayles, farmer, at the age of 34 years. Deceased had been in the hospital for the past 10 months, having been a patient sufferer from abscesses. He belonged to a well-known Kirkby family, his father having farmed Doveford Farm for a good number of years. Mr. Wayles was highly respected by all who knew him and much sympathy is being shown with the bereaved family in their sad loss. The funeral took place in the St. Cuthbert’s Churchyard, when a large number of the deceased’s relatives and friends attended to pay their last tribute of respect. The Rev. A. Partridge (vicar) and the Vicar of Woodland (the Rev James Park) officiated. The chief mourners were Mrs. Wayles, mother; Mr. W. Wayles, jun., brother (his father being unable to be present on account of illness); Mr. J. P. Hodgson, cousin (Barrow); Mrs. Fawcett, cousin (Millom); Mrs. and Miss A. Stewardson, cousins (Dalton); Mr. G. Tyson, cousin (Ulpha); Miss and Miss (sic) E. Robinson. Mr. and Mrs. James Robinson, cousins (Kirkby); and amongst the general public were Mr. G. Frearson, Ulverston; Mrs. Carter, Broughton; Mr. W. Clarke, solicitor, Broughton; Mr. W. Irven, Brocklebank Groung (sic – Ground), Mr. Irvin, Mr. D. Kendall, Mr. James Riley, Kirkby; and Mr. and Mrs. Casson, Ulverston. Many beautiful floral tributes were placed on the grave in memory of the deceased.

DEATH OF KIRKBY FARMER. – The death has taken place, after a prolonged illness, of Mr. William Wayles, Dove Ford Farm, at the advanced age of 72 years. Deceased had not been well for some time, but did not consult a doctor until quite recently, when Dr. Fawcett was called in, but Mr. Wayles gradually grew worse, and died on Saturday morning from cancer in the bowels. It will be remembered that a fortnight ago Mr. Wayles lost a son to death, which no doubt would help to hasten his end. Mr. Wayles was of a quiet and retiring disposition, and was well-liked and highly respected by all those he came in contact with. Much sympathy is being felt with Mrs. Wayles and her son in their sad and almost double bereavement. Mr. Wayles was very well known in the district, having lived at Dove Ford for the past 27 years. The funeral took place in St. Cuthbert’s churchyard, when a large number of the deceased’s relatives and friends attended to pay their last tribute of respect and sympathy. Mr. George Tyson, Ulverston; Mr. W. Tyson, Berks Farm, Ulpha; Miss Tyson, Under Cragg, Ulpha, Mrs. W. Bowes, Fenwick; Mrs. B. Hodgkins, Foxfield; Mrs. Rigg, Hawkshead; Mrs. Clark, Ambleside; Mrs. W. W. Hodgen, Ambleside; Mr. J. P. Hodgson, Barrow; Mr. W. Hodgen, Barrow, Mr. T. Hodgen, Dalton; Mr. A. Hodgen, Ulverston; Mrs. Robinson and Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Robinson, Kirkby; Mrs. M. Fawcett, Millom; Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Rawlinson, Kirkby; Mr., Mrs. and Miss Wilson, Green Road. Amongst other relatives were Mr. George Frearson, Ulverston; Miss M. A. Wayles, Kirkby; Mrs. Wayles, Silecroft; Mr. Matthew Wayles, Millom; Mr. and Mrs. Cornish and John Jackson, Dalton. There was also a large attendance of the general public. Floral tributes were placed on the grave from his wife and son, Mr. Tyson, Ford Bridge; his nephews and nieces, the Misses Stewardson and Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Rule, Dalton; Mr. and Mrs. Cornish, Bridge Inn, Dalton; Mrs. Postlethwaite, Bank End. The Rev. A. Partridge (vicar) and the Rev. Jas. Park, Woodland, officiated.
